Meet Our Staff

Glenn Powell

Glenn Powell began his career in funeral service at an early age. G. PowellIn 1969 he began working part-time at Sammons Funeral Home. During high school he worked after school and on week-ends. After graduating from Treutlen High School in 1971, he entered college in the fall of the same year. It was during his college years that Glenn realized God was calling him in funeral service. He returned to the funeral home in October of 1975 and has been there since that time.

Glenn is a graduate of Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service and a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Georgia Funeral Directors Association, Georgia Independent Funeral Directors Association, and Georgia Academy of Graduate Embalmers.

Glenn is married to the former Pamela Williams and they have a son, Steven, and two granddaughters. Glenn is a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, Soperton, Soperton Lions Club and serves on the Board of Directors for the Treutlen Nursing Home.


Billy Williams

Billy Williams began B. Williamshis career in funeral service in August, 1947, when he began serving his apprenticeship with his uncle, W. W. Sammons. He graduated from John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in 1950 and was licensed as a funeral director and embalmer the same year.

In November, 1951, Billy was married to the former Kadel Thomas. They have one daughter, Pamela Powell, a son, Thomas Williams, a grandson, two granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters. Billy is a member of the First Baptist Church.

On February 16, 2013, after 66 years of funeral service to Treutlen and surrounding counties, Billy went home to be with the Lord.  He will be missed, not only by his family, but also by the countless friends he made during the course of his career. He was a positive role model and an example to us all. His legacy will live on in the lives and hearts of his family and in those with whom he worked for so many years.

Pamela Williams Powell

Pamela Williams PowellPamela Williams Powell has been associated with Sammons Funeral Home all of her life. She is the wife of Glenn Powell and is the daughter of Billy and Kadel Williams. She is a 1972 graduate of Treutlen High School and a 1975 graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. On October 1, 2011 she retired after 34 years of service from Treutlen County Health Department where she was County Nurse Manager. She works as Administrative Assistant at the funeral home.

Pamela and Glenn have one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Stacey Powell, and two granddaughters, Logan and Emily Powell. She is a member of First Baptist Church where she teaches Sunday School and sings in the Adult Choir.


Steven Powell

Steven Powell is the son of Glenn and Pamela W. Powell. S. PowellHe is married to Stacey Wilkes Powell, and they have two daughters, Logan and Emily. He is a 1995 graduate of Treutlen High School, a 1998 graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and a 2000 graduate of the University of Georgia.

Steven has been involved in funeral service at Sammons Funeral Home with his father and grandfather, Billy Williams, most all his life. However, it was not until February 2006 that he decided to make funeral service his full time profession. He has completed his funeral service apprenticeship and plans to complete requirements for obtaining funeral service license in the near future.

Steven and his family reside in Soperton and are members of the First Baptist Church. He enjoys time with family and playing golf.


Jack Sweat

Jack Sweat has been associated with Sammons Funeral Home since 1993. J. SweatHe is known as the owner/operator of Sweat’s Bar-B-Q formerly located near Interstate 16, Soperton. He is retired from the United States Army, where he served during World War II. Jack and his wife Grace live in Soperton and are members of the First Baptist Church. Jack is also a member of the Soperton Lions Club, the VFW and the Second Armored Cavalry Association.


Buck Walker

Buck Walker has been employed B. Walkerwith Sammons Funeral Home since retiring from Forstmann, East Dublin in 1992. He is married to Ruby Walker. They reside in Soperton and are members of the Orianna Baptist Church.


Bobby Cammack

Bobby Cammack joined the staff of Sammons Funeral Home on March 1, 2010.  He was an independent insurance agent for 48 years with Hall Insurance Agency and later Yates Insurance Agency in Soperton.  He retired in August 2009.  He is married to the former Joan Posey and they have three children and six grandchildren.  He is a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Sonny Morgan

Sonny MorganSonny Morgan began his funeral service career on July 14, 1975, at the age of 15 when he was employed with Hooks Mortuary, Metter, GA. He is a 1978 graduate of Metter High School and a 1981 graduate of Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science, Atlanta. He also serves as Candler County Coroner. Sonny is married to Barbie Youmans Morgan of Metter and they have 2 children, Jess and Blythe Morgan. Sonny is a member of Metter Primitive Baptist Church and is proud to be associated with Sammons Funeral Home.
