Miss Amy Coleman, age 38, of Tarrytown died at her home Wednesday night, February 17, 2016, after a long illness.

Amy was a lifelong resident of Tarrytown and was preceded in death by grandparents, L.E. "Shotgun" Coleman and Zackie and Fannie Claxton, and a sister, Brenda Arnsdorff. She was a graduate of Montgomery County High School, East Georgia College, Swainsboro, and Georgia College and State University, Milledgeville. She was employed with Emanuel County Department of Family and Children Services and was a member of Tarrytown Baptist Church.

Since her diagnosis with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Amy has devoted her life to spreading awareness about the disease. In 2015 she was instrumental in the signing of the Governor's Proclamation designating May as EDS awareness month.

Survivors include her parents, Gary and Lynette Coleman of Tarrytown; paternal grandmother, Eva Coleman of Tarrytown; sister, Teresa (Greg) Stevens of Tarrytown; brother, Charles (Kathryn) Coleman of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Everend Arnsdorff of Tarrytown; and niece and nephews, Eva Grace Coleman, Anthony Coleman, Brandon Arnsdorff, George Arnsdorff, Michael Stevens, Nikolaus Stevens, Dillon Boyette, and Will Boyette.

Funeral services were held in the Saliba Chapel on the campus of Brewton Parker College, Mount Vernon, at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 21, with Reverend Donny Brown, Mr. Vance Rhoades, Reverend Paul Curry and Reverend Don Moye officiating. Burial was in Tarrytown Cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were George Claxton, James Claxton, Zack Claxton, Steven Grinstead, Daniel O'Connor, and Nathan O'Connor.

The honorary escort included Montgomery-Toombs EMS, Montgomery County First Responders, and Montgomery County High School Class of 1996.
