Mrs. Annie Lou McGahee Edge, age 96 of the Kibbee Community passed away on Monday morning, August 31, 2020 at the Oaks Bethany Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vidalia.
A native and lifelong resident of Montgomery County she was the eldest and last living of four children born to the late Willie and Becky Brantley McGahee. At the age of 12, her mother passed away and she assumed the role of a mother; washing, cooking, tending to younger siblings, all the time working in the fields with her father. In 1944 she married Treutlen County native, Ervin Edge, and made their home in the Kibbee Community. She worked at Oxford Textile in Vidalia for approximately fifteen years before substituting for her husband as a bus driver for the Montgomery County School System. She drove children to and from school until reaching the age of 65 when she started working in the Cafeteria in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Edge was a two time cancer survivor, blueberry farmer and accomplished seamstress; sewing wedding dresses, men's suits, and children's clothes out of flour sacks. She enjoyed being a servant and caregiver to others; always opening her home to family members and community members in need. She had been a longtime member of Vidalia Church of God where she taught the seven and eight year old Sunday School Class for 61 years. She was a committed Prayer Warrior and her life's goal was to see others led to know her Lord.
