Mrs. Artis L. Phillips, age 93, longtime resident of East Dublin, Georgia passed away on Friday evening, November 2, 2018 at The Serenity Place in Dublin.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from the graveside in Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Matt Haywood officiating.
Her family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
Born in Treutlen County she was the last living of six children born to the late Eugene and Mattie Holton Williford. She attended Gillis Springs School before joining the war effort and working as a Welder at the Shipyard in Savannah. In 1946 she married childhood friend and Treutlen County native, Royal B. Phillips. She returned to Treutlen County and worked for short time at Soperton Manufacturing before attending Nursing School and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Mrs. Phillips worked at the VA Medical Center in Dublin from the early 1960s until retiring in the late 1970s. She and her husband had made East Dublin their home since1967.
After marriage she joined and attended Boiling Springs Baptist Church. Upon settling in East Dublin she joined and served for over forty years at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Her family recalls her love for each of them and especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two sisters; Marie and Evelyn, three brothers; Vernon, Herbert and Bobby, her husband, Royal Phillips and a granddaughter, Angel Hall.
Mrs. Phillips leaves behind, her son, Van Royce Phillips (Gail), East Dublin, GA, her two daughters, Arlene Martin Yates (Gene), East Dublin, GA, Anita smith, Dublin, GA, five grandchildren, Keith Phillips (Annette), Michael Martin (Sheila), Michelle Snellgrove (Henry), Sally Diers, David M. Smith Jr., eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
