Obituary

Mrs. Avon Lord, age 79 of Soperton passed away on Monday morning, June 22, 2020 at Wrightsville Manor in Wrightsville, Georgia.

Born in Johnson County, she was one of five children born to the late George Lee Dickens and Essie Dee Watson Dickens. In 1946 her family moved to the Blackville Community where she and her siblings were raised. She attended the Adrian School and in 1961 married Douglas Lord. In the mid 1960s they moved to Macon; with her husband's work with Bibb Manufacturing Company. They returned to Blackville in the late 1960s. Mrs. Lord worked as a Machine Operator at the Apparel Craft pants factory in Wrightsville during the 1980s. The Lord family were longtime residents of Blackville and had been active members of the Blackville Church of God until moving their membership to the Garden of Prayer Assembly of God in Wrightsville, where her husband played the piano and she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.   Her husband of 48 years passed away in 2009 and she moved to her daughter's in Soperton.

Mrs. Lord was a holy ghost filled prayer warrior and the "Best Mother in the World".

In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a brother, Ben L. Dickens and his wife, Dot and a sister, Mable Dean Ely.

Mrs. Lord leaves behind her two daughters, Jan Price (Marnie Pound), Wrightsville, GA, Donna Ware (Mike), Soperton, GA, a brother, Charles Dickens (Julie), Blackville Community of Soperton, a sister, Mary Helen Hanson, Soperton, GA, three grandchildren, Ashley Price, Alan Michael Ware (Becky), Lindsey Ware (Austin), great grandchildren, Kaden Graham, Presslie Ware, Annistan Ware and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from the Garden of Prayer Assembly of God in Wrightsville with Reverend Bobby Miller and Pastor Kip Boswellofficiating.

Mrs. Lord will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Pullens Cemetery in Johnson County.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton.
