Barbara Jean Gillis, age 79 of Mt. Vernon passed away on Sunday morning, May 26, 2024 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.

Born in Vidalia, she was on of three children born to the late Fontus Fontaine Joiner and Blanche Annie Clifton.  She grew up in Lyons and attended school in the Toombs County School System.  A loving homemaker, she was the former wife of M. B. Gillis.  She enjoyed reading and computer games.

In addition to her parents and former husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Wade Joiner, a son, Ivey Gillis and a daughter, Annette Case.

Ms. Gillis leaves behind, five daughters, Diane Nava, Lyons, GA, Gail Coleman, McRae, GA, Linda Mercer (Kevin), Mt. Vernon, GA, Dorothy "Dot" Yawn, Hawkinsville, GA, Inez Gillis, Soperton, GA, twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a nephew.

Ms. Gillis will be laid to rest with her family in the Red Bluff Cemetery in Treutlen County.
