Mrs. Barbara Ann Lyles, age 84, of Soperton, passed away on Saturday morning, August 25, 2018 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton with Revered Conway Jones and Reverend Jack Stafford officiating.
Mrs. Lyles will be laid to rest beside her husband in Keas United Methodist Church Cemetery, Adrian, GA.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home.
Born in Charleston, SC she was one of seven children born to the late Wilbur Olen and Ruth Pearl Crosby Strickland. She grew up and attended high school in Walterboro and moved to Port Wentworth as a teenager. She married Treutlen County native Gerald B. Lyles in 1950. They lived in the Savannah area for many years with his work as Mrs. Lyles remained at home and raised their family. The Lyles's came to Soperton in 1966. Mrs. Lyles and her husband were Holiness Evangelists; beginning their ministry in Brush Arbor prayer meetings. They had been active ministers at the Thigpen Chapel, the Old Time Gospel House of Prayer in Vidalia and most recently attended Norristown Revival Center.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Reverend Gerald B. Lyles, a son, Johnny Michael Lyles, grandsons, Johnny Lavon Lyles and Jason Lyles Sellers and a great grandson, Brendan Chase McCoy.
Mrs. Lyles is survived by her children, Dottie Rogers (Mindell), Adrian, GA, Kay Sellers, Kathy Sellers, Jerry Lyles (Carlene), John Alex Lyles II (Sheila), Timothy Gerald Lyles (Lacey) all of Soperton, two sisters; her twin JoAnn Thompson, Register, GA, Betty Sparks, Walterboro, SC, a host of grand, great grand and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be: Jeff Rogers, Jay Rogers, Loren "Lolo" Lyles, Jerry Wilbur Lyles Jr., Bobby Lyles, Kyle Lyles, Joshua Lyles, Christopher Lyles, Tony "Grover" Lyles, Kevin Lyles and Danny Earl Sellers.
Her grandsons and great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
