Barbara Ann Simons, age 80, of Soperton, passed away on Friday morning, March 30, 2018 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, GA.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, April 2, 2018 in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend George Grimes, officiating.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 2:00 pm until the hour of service.

Miss Simons will be laid to rest at a later date with her family in Westview Cemetery, Soperton.

She was born in Treutlen County, GA, the eldest of four children born to the late William Henry and Hazel Ware Simons. After graduating from Treutlen County High School, she attended Georgia State Women's College in Milledgeville where she earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree. She continued her education at Emory University where she earned her Master's Degree in Library Science. Upon graduating she accepted a position with Goucher College in Baltimore, MD where she retired after thirty years as Collection Development Librarian at the Julia Rogers Library. During her career at Goucher College she also worked on special projects for the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. She retired and returned to Treutlen County in the late 1990s. Upon coming back to Soperton, Barbara Ann became involved in the Soperton Garden Club, the Treutlen County Historical Society, the Board of Registrars as well as working at the voting Polls.

She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Soperton where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and served as the church Librarian.

Miss Simons was a world traveler, enjoyed gardening and reading.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, James Daniel "Jim" Simons.

She is survived by a brother, William B. "Billy" Simons and his wife, Gloria, Soperton, GA, a sister, Mary Wood, Cleveland, GA and several nieces and nephews.
