Obituary

Mrs. Betty Phillips Lindsay, age 69 of the Normantown Community of Toombs County passed away on Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in Tarrytown, she was one of six children in the family.  She grew up and attended school in Toombs and Treutlen counties.  She had worked as a Machine Operator at Toombs and Oxford Manufacturing.  After retiring from Oxford Mrs. Lindsay worked as an in home Personal Care Assistant and as a Landlord for her trailer park in Vidalia.

She enjoyed gardening, feeding hummingbirds, sewing, working on family genealogy, building and painting, cooking chicken and dumplins and trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Mrs. Lindsay had been a longtime member at Calvary Way Church in Lyons, where she was a Sunday School teacher and the church Treasurer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Mark Phillips and Willie Mae Smith Phillips, her husbands, Gerald Thomas Wingard and Daniel "Boochy" Lindsay, sons, Gerald Thomas Wingard Jr., Lance Lindsay, siblings, Kenneth Phillips, D. F. Phillips, Howard Gillis, Avon Gillis and Eddie Phillips.

Mrs. Lindsay leaves behind, her children, Jason Wingard (Julie), Soperton, GA, Geena Lindsay, Vidalia, GA, a sister, Mearlene Hullender, Vidalia, a brother, Melvin Phillips, Ringold, GA, grandchild, Gracelyn Spears, children and grandchildren by marriage, Dana Lindsay, Christian Moseley, Mariah Andrews, Lane Moseley, all of Lyons, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Caraway officiating.

Mrs. Lindsay will be laid to rest in the Beasley Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm until the hour of service or friends and family may call at the home of her niece, Barbie Birkheimer.

Serving as pallbearers will be, her favorite nephews, Larry Gillis, Joey Hullender, Joseph Hullender, Kristopher Daniels, Erick "Little E" Jackson Jr., Glen "Jon Jon" Birkheimer Jr., Doug Gillis, Tory Lamb and Willie Hullender.
