Mrs. Betty Ann Spivey beloved wife of the late Bobby Gene Spivey of the Rockledge Community entered into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday afternoon, March 30, 2022 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.
Born in Rome, Georgia she was the youngest and last living of two daughters born to the late Clayton Otha and Elizabeth Messer Thigpen. She grew up in Treutlen County where she graduated from the public school system before attending the Georgia Teacher's College which is now Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Public Education and was an Educator in Laurens County for thirty five years, before retiring in 1996.
In 1956 she married Minter native, Bobby Gene Spivey. They lived in Alaska, while he served in the U.S. Army, for a short time before returning to Laurens County. They made their home in Rockledge where they resided until each of their passings.
They were longtime, active members at Union Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was the chairman of the Bereavement Committee and volunteered at all church festivals and events.
She enjoyed traveling, shopping and eating out with her best friend Lynette Morris.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Spivey, who passed away in 1998, her son, Jeffrey Alan "Al" Spivey, who passed away in 2017, her sister, Marilyn Thigpen Lisenby Skene, who passed away in 2014 and her in laws, Alver and Pearl Wynn Spivey.
Mrs. Spivey leaves behind, her daughter, Beth Spivey, Rockledge, GA, nieces and nephews, Clay Lisenby and family, Forsyth, GA, Nancy Lisenby Jenkins, Macon, GA, Shaw Lisenby and family, Fargo, ND, Blake Lisenby, Macon, GA, her special friend, Lynette Morris and a longtime family friend, L. H. Wicker, both of East Dublin, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, April 1, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Mertz and Reverend Jordy Barwick officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 am until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Spivey will be laid to rest beside her husband in Minter Cemetery.
