Mr. Billy Jack Morgan, age 82, beloved husband of the late Patsy Hill Morgan of Soperton passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the Carl Vinson Veteran's Care Center in Dublin, Georgia.

Born in Cobbtown, he was the second of eight children born to the late Clyde Algerine Morgan and Florine Woods Morgan.  He grew up in Cobbtown, Reidsville and Collins.  After attending public school, he worked as a sharecropper until he was of the required age to enlist in the United States Navy.  During his stint in the Navy, he served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged.  At the time of his discharge, he settled in Emanuel County where he met his future wife, Patsy Hill.  They married in 1965 and remained together for fifty eight years until she passed away in 2023.  In the 1960s, the Morgans made their home in Oglethorpe and Montezuma, GA until moving to Dublin in the 1980s.  In 1988, the Veteran's Administration recognized a unique talent in Mr. Morgan and offered him a position as a Medical Illustrator and Artist that lasted until his retirement in the late 2000s.  He has been a resident of Soperton since 1989.  Since retiring he has concentrated solely on his murals, wildlife and farm scene paintings.  His paintings have garnered national attention by the likes of U.S. Army General and  U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.  A particular painting depicting the United States military's involvement in the Gulf War was displayed in the Pentagon and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.   Many esteemed statesmen to include former President of the United States Jimmy Carter and former Georgia Governor Joe Frank Harris were proud owners of works of art created by Mr. Morgan.  On a local level in Soperton, one of his paintings is constantly displayed, behind the tellers, as customers visit the Georgia First Bank.  For those that knew Mr. Morgan, they were aware that each painting and each character in the painting possessed a story and Billy was always happy to share his cherished insights and points of motivation.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by siblings, Carolyn Meeks, Mae Holland and Tony Morgan.

Mr. Morgan leaves behind, his children, Billy Shane Morgan (Angie), Las Vegas, NV, Sherry Morgan Ricks (Herbie), Soperton, GA; siblings, C. A. Morgan, Mt. Vernon, GA, Sue Morgan O'Conner, Dublin, GA, Paulette Morgan Raedet, Statesboro, GA, Ella Morgan Alexander, Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Erica Green (Jordan), Whitney Morgan (Gordan Jackson), Keely McLeod, Allen "A. J." Morgan, Maleah Ricks; great grandchildren, Alice Green, Henry Green, Dante Jackson, Creed Toledo, Malani Harrielson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, July 11, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Milton Thomas officiating.

Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy Command Southeast Region Honors Detail.

Mr. Morgan will be laid to rest in Montezuma, Georgia.

His family will receive friends on Friday, at Sammons Funeral Home, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
