Mr. Billy Wayne Norris age 81 of Soperton passed peacefully on Thursday evening, January 20, 2022 at the Serenity Place in Dublin, Georgia.
Born in Treutlen County, he was the last living of four children born to the late Virgil Lee Norris Sr. and Katie Mae Scott Norris. After high school, Mr. Norris served in the United States Army as a Gunner. Upon receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Treutlen County and worked with the Braddy Oil Company. In August of 1959 he married Treutlen County native Peggy Ann Holton. He later began a career in Law Enforcement with the Georgia Department of Transportation that lasted until his retirement in 2000. During his tenure with GDOT, Mr. Norris worked Treutlen, Laurens, Dodge and Twiggs counties. After retiring he pursued his enjoyment of hunting, fishing, woodworking, spoiling his grand and great grandchildren and an occasional visit to the Cherokee, NC casino.
Mr. Norris and his wife had both been members of Bethsaida Baptist Church since childhood.
He had a benevolent heart for others and was happiest when he could help someone through the blessing that he had received.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Billy is preceded in death by his siblings, Tiny Lou Norris, Johnnie Faye Norris Morris and Virgil Lee Norris Jr.
Mr. Norris leaves behind his wife of sixty three years, Peggy Holton Norris, Soperton, GA, their children, Eddie Duane Norris (Veronica), Lothair Community of Soperton, GA, Debbie Norris, Soperton, GA, six grandchildren, Brandon, Chris and Jordan Norris, Chris Rowland, Heather Braddy (Garrett), Markie McDaniel (Dakota), eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 24, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Glen Pullian and Sheriff Tommy Corbin officiating.
Mr. Norris will be laid to rest in Bethsaida Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Trellis Peeples, Jimmy Bailey, Ricky Morris, Wayne Morris, Trent Morris and Barry Norris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Ware, Earl Parrish and the members of the Bethsaida Baptist Church Sunday School Class.
His family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
