Mr. Bobby Joe Cammack, age 84, beloved husband of Joan Posey Cammack of Soperton passed away early Monday morning, April 27, 2026 at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A native and lifelong resident Treutlen County, he was one of seven children born to the late Grady James "G.J." Cammack and Jessie Lee Gilreath Cammack. As a child, Bobby lived and grew up in the Rosemont area of Treutlen County, where he attended school and worked on various area farms. He was a graduate of Treutlen High School, Class of 1960. After high school, he enlisted in the National Guard. In 1962, Bobby began a forty-seven year career in the insurance industry. In 1964, he married Joan Posey and they began a journey that lasted for sixty-two years, until his passing. He and Joan had three children together. While working in the insurance industry, Bobby served the residents of Treutlen and surrounding counties as an Independent Agent with the Hall Insurance Agency, of Soperton, from 1962 until joining Yates Insurance of Dublin in the 1990s, where he remained until retiring in 2009. Soon after retiring, Bobby began working with Sammons Funeral Home; where he became and has remained a valued team member until his passing.
Bobby had a passion for the out doors, quail hunting and training his bird dogs. He was an accomplished, self taught gunsmith and was known to lend his skill and expertise to help others with problems that they may not have faced before. He was well known by many hunters and sportsmen as the source for reloaded shotgun shells and other hunting ammunition.
He and Joan were longtime members of the Harmony Baptist Church where Bobby served as a Deacon and the Chairman of the Deacons for many years. As the years progressed, Bobby stepped down from the position as an active Deacon and was recently honored with the distinction as a Deacon Emeritus. He served for many years on the church cemetery committee.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Grady Cammack, Geraldine Cammack Walker and Billy Cammack.
Mr. Bobby leaves behind, his wife of sixty-two years, Joan P. Cammack, Soperton, GA, their children, Jackie C. Garner, (Al), Soperton, GA, Beth C. Tarver (David), Lizella, GA, Jason Cammack (Pammy), Statesboro, GA, , two sisters, Lucy Peebles, Hinesville, GA, Jane Asbell (Earl), Dublin, GA, a brother, Donnie Cammack (Teresa), Soperton, GA, six grandchildren, Chelsea Cutler (Keith), Caleb Garner (Courtney), Adam Tarver (Jillian), Jacob Tarver (Lindsey), Dylan Cammack, Ryan Cammack, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Kerry Walker and Pastor Adam Tarver officiating.
Bobby will be laid to rest in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Adam Tarver, Jacob Tarver, Caleb Garner, Keith Cutler, Dylan Cammack and Josh Cammack.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 o'clock p.m. at Sammons Funeral Home or friends and family may call at the family residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory are encouraged to be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 95 Harmony Lane, Soperton, GA 30457
