Bobby Dwayne
Humphrey
Jul 24, 1969 — Oct 16, 2025
Glenwood
Mr. Bobby Dwayne Humphrey, age 56, of Glenwood passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia after an extended illness.
As a life-long resident of Wheeler County, he appreciated the simplicity of the country life. Dwayne enjoyed all things outdoors including hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and most of all spending time with family. Dwayne held great integrity, he was kind and approachable and willing to help anyone within his ability. He always had a story to tell, related to any topic at hand, which usually included a large helping of good humor, relatability, and life lessons. Dwayne was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Glenwood and Trinity Assembly of God in Soperton, Georgia serving as Men's Ministry Leader until the time of his passing.
Dwayne started his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in September 1989, beginning as a correctional officer and rising to the rank of Major. Affectionately known as "Hump" among his Georgia Department of Corrections coworkers; he retired in 2021 as Major of the South East Regional Training Academy in Reidsville, after thirty-two years of faithful service with the Department. However, he missed doing what he was best at, which was teaching others, so he decided to return part-time to assist with many training programs until the time of his death.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his Father Bobby Humphrey and Grandparents H.J. Brooks, Bill Humphrey and Mollie Humphrey.
Dwayne is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Rebecca Humphrey; daughters, Sydney (Jacorie) Stuckey of Lothair and Lauren Humphrey of Glenwood, sons, Caleb Kephart of Lothair and Carson Humphrey of Glenwood and two grandchildren: Layla and Carter Stuckey, his mother, Jennifer Humphrey, maternal grandmother, Imogene Brooks of Glenwood, brother, Kaylain Humphrey of Glenwood; brother in law, Dan (Penny) Rayburn, sister in law, Rachel (Shane) Bowen and mother in law, Debbie Rayburn all of Soperton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other close family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Trinity Assembly of God, 5226 GA Highway 29, in Soperton.
Dwayne will be laid to rest beside his father in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Glenwood.
Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Baswell, Humberto Hurtado, Michael Ruis, Freddie Coulter, Keith Campbell and Maurice Mangra.
Special escorts will be Phillip Lockett, Jeff Malpass and Donald Lowe.
Honorary escorts will be his co workers and fellow employees of the Georgia Department of Corrections.
His family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Trinity Assembly of God in Soperton.
