Obituary

Mr. Bobby Joe Moxley, age 92, beloved husband of Louise Henry Moxley of Soperton passed away at their home on Tuesday evening, July 29, 2025.

Born in Treutlen County, he was the youngest and last living of four children born to the late James Elton Moxley and Sarah Estelle Collins Moxley.  He grew up and was a graduate of Soperton High School.  After high school he accepted employment with the State of Georgia Department of Transportation as a Surveyor, building Interstate 16, from Macon to Savannah.  Being at the height of the Korean Conflict he was drafted into the United States Army where he served at Headquarters Special Troops Command at Fort Benning until being honorably discharged with rank of Sergeant.  Mr. Moxley returned home and immediately assumed his position with the DOT where he worked until retiring in 1982 with thirty four years of combined service.

After retiring, he pursued an interest in politics and served as a City Council member, as well as Mayor of Soperton until the 1990s.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on the farm in Zaidee and tending to his cattle.  He was an avid fan of Atlanta sports, whether it be the Falcons, the Braves or his beloved Bulldogs..   When he wasn't content with what FOX News was reporting, he would find solace in an old western movie.

Mr. Bobby Joe was a longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother, Billy Moxley, another brother, James Elton Moxley Jr. and his sister, Thelma Moxley Cook.

He leaves behind, his wife of forty eight years, Louise Henry Moxley, Soperton, GA, his son, Bobby Joe Moxley Jr., and his wife, Pam; Zaidee Community of Tarrytown, GA, two nieces and a nephew.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2025 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Conway Jones officiating.
