Mr. Emory "Buddy" Proctor, age 87, beloved husband of Lindy Manning Proctor, of Soperton passed away on Tuesday morning, February 10, 2026 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

A native and lifelong resident of Treutlen County, he was the only boy of eight children born to the late Lewis and Elsie Cammack Proctor.   He attended the Rosemont School and left public education at an early age to go to work in the fields of tobacco and cotton.  Throughout his entire life, he felt the need to spend as much time working as humanly possible.  He was never content with one job but for most of his life maintained multiple jobs at the same time.  Mr. Proctor had owned and operated Bill Smith's Grocery Store in Soperton, ran the AMOCO Service Station during the 60s and 70s, worked with Newell Construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator during the building of I-16 , farmed 200 acres, drove a school bus for Treutlen County School System for twenty years; all the while working with the Department of Corrections at the Montgomery State Prison until retiring after twenty five years.  He was always looking for better ways to provide for his family and pass along his work ethic to the generations that would walk behind him.

Farming was his passion and just days before his passing he and a grandson were discussing the benefits of buying another John Deere tractor that he had found.   Since childhood, he had owned and rode horses and was always fond of Tennessee Walkers and Fox Trotters.

He had attended Rosemont Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Helen Proctor Meeler Simmons, Jeanette Proctor Meeler, Mildred Proctor Morrison and an infant sister, Christine Proctor.

He leaves behind his wife of sixty-six years, Lindy Manning Proctor; their children, Terry Proctor and his wife Angie, Penny Proctor McDaniel (Dwayne), all of Soperton, GA; siblings, Ann Clark (Wade), Soperton, GA, Danis Ward, Frances Wiggins and Charlotte Fortner, all of Vidalia; grandchildren, Meghan Proctor McLeod (David), Soperton, GA, Hayden Stephen Proctor (Cassie), Soperton, GA, Jessica McDaniel McGowan (Matt), Metter, GA, Bailee McDaniel Poole (D. J.), Soperton, GA; great grandchildren, Emery Proctor, Jase McGowan, Saylor McGowan, Rhett McDaniel, Ryder Poole and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral with Pastor Barry Peavy officiating.

Mr. Proctor will be laid to rest beside his father in Westview Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Granville Morrison, Danny Dixon, Keith Clark, Matthew Wiggins, David Avery and Robbie Hooks.

His family will receive friends, at Sammons Funeral Home, on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 o'clock p. m. or friends and family may call at the family pond house.
