Obituary

Mr. Chan Carter, age 86, of Soperton died Tuesday, January 30, 2018.

Mr. Carter was born in Johnson County and lived most of his life in Treutlen County.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin T. and Zimmie Hammock Carter, brothers, Carlos Carter, Hershel Carter, Dick Carter, and James Carter, and sisters, Lula Mae Howell and Brunell Willis.  He was retired from Farmers Furniture after fifty-two years having served in various capacities, and was a farmer.  He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Treutlen County.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Doris Odom Carter; children, Marty Carter and Lea (Eddie) Hall, all of Soperton; grandchildren, Deanna (Todd) Mason, Matthew Carter (Beth Cribb), and Courtney (Nathan) Perkins; great-granddaughter, Emma Rae Mason;  sister, Ocala Morris of Higgston; brothers, Byron (Geraldine) Carter of Sandersville, Garlon (Arelia) Carter of Soperton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in Harmony Baptist Church at 11 o'clock Thursday, February 1, with Reverend Mark Sweat and Reverend Jason Corbett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 29 Harmony Lane, Soperton, GA   30457.
