Obituary

Charles Dennis, age 72 of Adrian passed away on Monday afternoon, May 27, 2024 at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Born in Adrian, he was a son of the late Herman Rozier "Pee Wee" Dennis and Sarah Beasley Dennis.  He grew up in Adrian and attended Adrian High School.  Being the son of a carpenter, it was only natural that he would follow in his father's footsteps and work with wood.  Charles had worked at the Richard Auger Saw Mill and for over fifteen years at Henry's Cabinet Shop in Swainsboro.  He left Henry's and worked at Miami Carey for a short time before working at Swainsboro Electroplating, where he remained until retiring at the time of it's closure.

Charles had served as a Volunteer Firefighter and First Responder for the City of Adiran where he served as Assistant Chief for many years.

Those that knew him know that he was a "Collector of Fine Junk".  He enjoyed estate sales, yard sales, auctions, flea markets and walking miles on dusty roads looking for arrowheads.  If he happened upon a unique piece of Coke or NASCAR memorabilia; it was going home with him.

Charles had been a member of the Jump and Run Hunting Club and had attended Hebron Holiness and Pine Hill Holiness Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Dennis, who passed away on Jan. 20, 2013 and a brother, A. J. Dennis who passed away on Nov. 19, 2022.

Charles leaves behind: his daughter, Carol Graham, Soperton, GA, his siblings, Nellie Odon, Dublin, GA, Zelda Sumner (Roger), Adrian, GA, Rocky Dennis, Adrian, GA and a sister in law, Nell Dennis of Adrian.  He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Roxanne Odom, Nora Clements, Kenneth Sumner (Mercedes), Krisy Marcin (Roy), Nikki Dennis, Rocky Dennis, Haley Garnto, Joseph "Pee Wee" Dennis, Amanda Dennis along with several great and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Mulling officiating.

Charles will be laid to rest in Midway Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Roy Marcin, Brandon Marcin, Chris Allen, Roger Sumner, Kenneth Sumner and Thomas Webb.  Gene Green will serve as an honorary escort.
