Obituary

David Allen Derriso, Sgt, U. S. Army, ret., age 83 of Glenwood, Georgia passed away on Saturday morning, May 18, 2019 at Dublin Place in Dublin, Georgia.

Born in Treutlen County he was one of seven children born to the late George Cleve and Sadie Adele Moore Derriso. He grew up and was educated in Treutlen County before enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen. He served in the Korean Conflict and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam before retiring as a Sergeant with twenty (20) years of active duty service. Upon being honorably discharged he returned home and enrolled at Brewton Parker College where he obtained his Bachelor Degree. He was ordained as a Baptist Minister in 1986. After his ordination Reverend Derriso pastored Mount Shady Baptist Church and assisted other congregations within the area.

He was presently a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Glenwood where he served as a Deacon.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wives, Quinell Gillis Derriso and Jewell Thigpen Derriso, a son, Royce Derriso, three sisters, Annie Mae Terry, Betty O'Conner, Cornelia Shultz and a brother, George Derriso.

He leaves behind one son, Doyce Derrico (Belinda), Glenwood, GA, a sister, Nellie Odom, Dublin, GA, a brother, J.E. Derriso, Swainsboro, GA, two grandsons, Joshua (Gracie) and Allen, six great grandsons, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Brother Nolan McDaniel and Brother Bob Corley officiating.

Mr. Derriso will be laid to rest beside his wives in the Swainsboro City Cemetery, Swainsboro, Georgia with full military honors accorded by the United States Army Ceremonial Detachment, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
