Obituary

Mr. Donald C. Edge, age 75 of Soperton, beloved husband of Dianne Henry Edge passed away on Thursday evening, August 5, 2021 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in Wheeler County, he was the eldest of six children born to the late James Thomas Meeks and Imagene Weeks Meeks.  He grew up in Treutlen County and was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, Class of 1965.  After high school he served stateside in the United States Army.  Mr. Edge began his working years with Newell Road Builders as a Heavy Equipment Operator building and finishing Interstate 16.  In the mid 1970s he worked, as an Operator, at Plant Vogtle until joining the Treutlen County Prison System as a Guard at the Treutlen County Boot Camp.  He carried his time with the Prison System to a new position as a Highway Engineer with Georgia Department of Transportation from where he retired in 2007.  Mr. Edge enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and raising chickens.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas Lee Meeks, Janice Lynn Rogers, Sue Ann Hall and James Allen Meeks, a grandson, Donald Thomas Edge and a grand daughter, Maggie Grace Norris.

Mr. Edge leaves behind, his wife, Dianne Henry "Granny Pearl" Edge, Soperton, GA, children, Keith Edge (Kim), Soperton, GA, Sheila Wommack (Roger), Cadwell, GA, Kenny Wilson (Darlene), Soperton, GA, Jeannie Sweat (Mike), Anchorage, AK, his remaining brother, Tony L. Meeks (Donna), Soperton, GA, grandchildren, Michelle Edge, Ethan Edge (Anna), Chris Norris (Jan), Brandon Norris (Courtney), Jessica Coleman (Mark), Wade Wommack, Brandon Sweat (Brianna), Nicholas "Nick" Lowery (Maddie), Hannah Wilson (Kent Wommack), Tyler Wilson, great grandchildren, Madalynn Rae Edge, Katie Jones, Gabe Jones, Jace Norris, Austin Coleman, Briar Coleman, Emilie Norris, Hadlyn Norris, Pax Norris, Piper Wommack, Brendon Sweat, Theo Sweat, Kyle Lowery, Lennon Wommack and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from the graveside in Red Bluff Cemetery.

His family will receive friends at the cemetery, on Sunday, or at the residence.
