Mrs. Doris M. Sumner, age 80 of Wrightsville, passed away at her home on Saturday morning, November 25, 2017.

Born in Emanuel County, she was one of four children born to the late Hubert Guy Mathis Sr. and Albertice Smith Mathis. She grew up in and was a lifelong resident of Wrightsville, GA.  She had married Alexander Hodges Sumner Sr., a local Johnson County Farmer, in 1954 and had attended Liberty Grove Baptist Church in Wrightsville.

In addition to her parents, her husband of 47 years preceded her in death in 2001 as well as a son, William Michael "Mike" Sumner who passed away in 1990.

Mrs. Sumner is survived by three sons, Alexander H. "Andy" Sumner Jr., H. Jerry Sumner and his wife, Shirley, John Sumner, a daughter, Marianne S. Farthing and her husband, Craig, all of Wrightsville, GA, two brothers, Curtis Mathis and his wife, Annie Jo, Adrian, GA, Guy Mathis, Americus, GA, a sister, Margaret Mathis Turner and her husband, Ronnie, Cochran, GA, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Sammy Hall, officiating.

Mrs. Sumner will be laid to rest beside her husband in Westview Cemetery, Wrightsville, GA.
