Mrs. Dorothy Nell Graham Burns, age 94, beloved wife of the late Paul Elbert Burns of Soperton passed away on Monday morning, December 29, 2025 at the Cauley House in Soperton.
Born in Macon, she is the last living of seven children born to the late George Washington Graham and Mary Ella Johnson Graham. She grew up in Soperton and was a graduate of Soperton High School, Class of 1949. In the late 1950's while visiting a relative in Jacksonville, she met a U.S. Navy Sailor, Paul Elbert Burns whom, she would marry in 1960. They moved to various areas within the United States with his military assignments. They settled in Soperton in 1970 where they have remained. Mrs. Burns had worked at Bill's Dollar Store for a period of time before settling in to being a mother and homemaker to her children and her husband. Her husband passed away in 2017.
She was an avid reader even into the last few years when she had to look for books with large print. She enjoyed yard sales (looking for books that she hadn't read), traveling (especially to Jacksonville Beach, the annual Peaches to Beaches "treasure hunt", the Atlanta Braves , sewing and quilting and had a special love for Dairy Queen ice cream.
They had attended St. Mark Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a great grandson, Colten Foskey and her siblings, Roy Graham, Eloise Gillis, Ruby Smith, Mary Helen Graham Dildy, Robert Graham, Larry Graham and a son in law, Donald Stinson.
Mrs. Burns leaves behind, her children, Allen Graham (Patty), Moneta, VA, Carol Stinson, Dublin, GA, Cheryl Parsons (Robert, Soperton, GA, Bobby Burns (Rena), Soperton, GA, ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildrern, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 1, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Chaplain Andy Williams officiating.
Mrs. Burns will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Westview Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Adam Burns, Tony Graham, Brian Graham, John Myers, Justin Myers and Landon Myers.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday at Sammons Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the hour of the service or friends and family may call at the home of her son and daughter in law, Bobby and Rena Burns.
