Obituary

Doshia L. Smith, age 90 of Soperton passed away in the early morning hours on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Pruitt Health in Swainsboro, Georgia.

Born in Emanuel County she was the eldest of two children born to the late Joseph Manson Love Sr. and Mattie Lou Yates Love.  At the age of eight, her mother passed away.  Her father later married Evar Lee Hughes and together they added to and blended their family to total fifteen children.   She grew up in the Oak Park, Nunez and the Norristown communities.  She had worked as a Machine Operator at the Shirt Factory in Oak Park and Lyons before working as a CNA at the Living Center in McRae.  In the 1990s she moved to Scotland, Georgia where she founded and ran Granny's Store and Café, working many sixty hour weeks, until retiring in 2007.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing, painting ceramics, embroidery, feeding and watching her yard birds, cooking, washing dishes and ironing.

She grew up in the Oak Park Church of God and had been a longtime member of the Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Vidalia.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her bonus mother, Evar Lee Hughes Love; husbands, Robert Amerson I and Thomas Burnham; three daughters, Ernestine Amerson, Ruby Nell Henderson, Gloria Ann Kolar; siblings, Earl Hughes, Patty Sue Willis, Joe Love Jr., Essie Mae Harville, Bonnie Faye Leslie, Mary Ellen Clark and three grandchildren, Carissa Rebecca Kolar, T. J. Meeks and Christopher Bing.

Mrs. Smith leaves behind: her children, Bobbette Mott (Danny), Broaddus, TX, Robert Amerson (Amanda), Collins, GA, LaDonna Meeks (Tony), Soperton, GA; a son in law, Clarence Lee Kolar Sr.; siblings, Jessie Pearl Moore (Henry), Adrian, GA, Peggy Jane Lynn, Soperton, GA, Pearlie Clyde Tanner (James), Soperton, GA, Martha Joe Hayes, Bonaire, GA, Billie Joyce Ray (O.T.), Reidsville, GA, Jeannie Usher (Moose), Lyons, GA, Connie Sheffield, Lyons, GA, Emory Love (Linda), AL, many grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p. m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor John Young Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest in the Red Bluff Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, from 6:00  - 8:00 o'clock p. m. at Sammons Funeral Home or friends and family may call at the home of her daughter, LaDonna Meeks.
