Obituary

Mr. F. Douglas Braddy, age 81, beloved husband of Fran Phillips Braddy of Soperton passed away on Friday afternoon, August 11, 2023 at Memorial Health in Savannah.

A native and lifelong resident of Soperton, he was the eldest of three children born to the late Malcolm Dudley Braddy and Pauline Hutcheson Braddy.  He was a graduate of Treutlen High School, where he was known to have ridden his motorcycle down the halls.  Mr. Braddy had worked at Calvine Mills in Swainsboro before joining Chan Carter at Farmer's Furniture, where he was affectionately known as "Pee Wee", and worked for thirty nine years before retiring in 2004.  In March of 1964, he married Soperton native and his high school sweetheart, Fran Phillips.  Over the next fifty nine years, she became the love of his life.  Mr. Braddy was a jokester who had a tender heart and humble spirit.  He was an avid student of Bible study and was never hesitant to share his faith and belief in Christ.  He loved the outdoors, being around God's creatures, hunting, fishing and time spent with his grandchildren.

He had attended Soperton First Baptist Church, Boiling Springs Baptist Church, Harmony Baptist Church and had been a longtime member at Morningside Baptist Church.

Mr. Braddy was passionate about his faith, his family and his country which was displayed by his service in the United States Army Reserves for six years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Lynn Braddy and a brother in law, Bobby Nobles.

Mr. Braddy leaves behind his wife and the love of his life, Fran Phillips Braddy, their daughter, Cheryl Wheeler (Travis), their son, David Braddy, his sister, Diane Nobles, all of Soperton, five grandchildren, Jade Braddy, Keith Wheeler, Nicole Wheeler, David Braddy Jr., Zach Braddy, great grandchildren, Cameron Lyles, Dawson Wheeler, Paisleigh Wheeler, Aurora Wheeler, Lilly Wagner and his very much loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, August 14, 2023 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastors Vic Fordham and George Grimes officiating.

Mr. Braddy will be laid to rest in Morningside Baptist Church Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 o'clock a.m. until the hour of service.

Serving as pallbearers will be:  Don Phillips, Chip Anderson, Nick Pileggi, Dustin Stark, Jason Cox and Andrew Phillips

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Phil Phillips, Marty Carter, Aaron Buxton, Alvin Wheeler, Tony Way, Terry Phillips, Don Lawhon, Ronnie Phillips and Shanon Phillips.
