Mr. Douglas Meeks, age 90, of Soperton died Friday, February 10, 2017.
Mr. Meeks was born in Saint Augustine, FL and grew up in Soperton. He lived in Fitzgerald until he retired and moved back to Soperton in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Eunice Fowler Meeks, sisters, Eloise Hopkins and Willamena Morgan, and brothers, Lawtice Meeks and Monroe Meeks. He served in the US Army during World War II and was retired from CSX Railroad, Fitzgerald. He was a member of Soperton Trinity Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Grace Parrish Meeks; children, Marta (Randy) Walker of Valdosta, Lloyd (Dee) Meeks, Heath (Lea) Meeks, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Kelli Walker (Mark) Cook of Round Rock, TX, Cal (Charlotte) Meeks of Abbeville, Ben Meeks of Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Marlli Cook and Lexi Cook, both of Round Rock, TX, Alexis Meeks of Fitzgerald; brothers, Walton L. Meeks of Salem, OR and Edsel Meeks of Clinton, MS; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Monday, February 13, with Pastor Gilbert Posey and Reverend Kerry Walker officiating. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery, Treutlen County.
Pallbearers will be Ben Meeks, Cal Meeks, Hugh McLendon, Barry Norris, Alvin Heath and Rodney Meeks.
A visitation will be held one hour before the services on Monday.
