Mrs. Edith Brown Lavender Spivey, age 92, of Soperton, died peacefully Saturday, September 9, 2017, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Spivey was born in Toomsboro, Georgia, on June 20, 1925, and grew up in Wilkinson County.    She was the youngest child of William Clark Brown and Evie Mercer Brown.  Her mother, Evie, died when she was two months old.  Due to necessity she was taken in and later adopted by her aunt, Frances Mercer Lavender, and her husband, James L. Lavender.  She grew up and lived near her biological father and siblings.  She always remained close to them and was considered one of them.

Mrs. Spivey was predeceased by her husband of fifty-one years, Grahl Spivey, his eight siblings and their spouses; her five brothers and three sisters and their spouses; her two adoptive brothers and their spouses; her two half-brothers; her one half-sister; her daughter, Faye Phillips Kight; her infant son, Randy Spivey; her grandson, Travis Spivey; and her step-great-granddaughter, Ashley Merritt.

She is survived by one son, Robin (Sharon) Spivey of Soperton;  five grandchildren, Keith (Julie) Spivey of Vidalia, Jaime (Adrian) Bell of Uvalda, Donna (Chip) Anderson of Macon, Shannon (Jean) Phillips of Gray, Mitch (Donna) Hamilton of Vidalia; step-grandson, Phil (Karen) Phillips of Dexter; step-granddaughter, Debbie (Nick) Pileggi of Dublin; daughter-in-law, Barbara (Russ) Tidwell of Lyons; half-sister, Dorothy Lord of Toomsboro; seventeen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews with one special niece who provided so much love and care for her the past couple of years, Melody Franciscus.

Mrs. Spivey was a member of Harmony Baptist Church for over sixty years and was very active until failing health prevented her attending.  She retired from J. P. Stevens and Company with thirty years of service and worked as a "Pink Lady" at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin for several years.  She also worked as a hostess at the Treutlen County's Million Pines Welcome Center for twenty years.

She will be remembered as a beautiful lady in body and spirit. She was one who never met a stranger and constantly reached out to minister to anyone who needed help or friendship.  She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother who cared dearly for her immediate and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, at 2 o'clock, Thursday, September 14, with Reverend Nolon McDaniel and Reverend Adrian Bell officiating.  Burial will be in Midway Cemetery, Treutlen County.

A visitation will be held one hour before the funeral services on Thursday.
