Elisabeth "Libby" Hester, age 69, of Soperton, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023 at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.

Born in Dublin, she was one of twelve children born to the late Claude Thelma Jackson and Pearl Marie Kicklighter Jackson.  She had been a lifelong resident of Treutlen and Montgomery counties until moving to Toombs County to be near her children in 2004.  She and her husband had owned and operated the Soperton Flower Shop, which was housed in the old Willie Sammons residence in Soperton.  After selling the flower shop, she worked at various Texaco Convenience Stores in Treutlen and Toombs counties.

She was a self-taught, accomplished, artist that specialized in acrylic and oil painting.  Her paintings were admired and remembered by many children of Treutlen County as she was asked to paint a Disney mural in the Treutlen Day Care which was adjacent to the present day Cauley House.  In addition to her painting, she enjoyed woodburning, time spent with her family and being out doors; surrounded by nature.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Arlene Connell of Glenwood, David Jackson of Soperton, Martha Poole of Glenwood, Cherry Ann Thornton of Glenwood, Jimmy Jackson of Soperton and a daughter in law, Carissa Aileen Hester.

Libby leaves behind: her children, Michelle Lea Hester, Dewey Vincent "Vince" Hester, Toby Nicholas Hester (Wendy), Spencer Matthew Hester (Angela), all of Lyons, GA, siblings, Trellis Manning of Palm Bay, FL, Larry Jackson of Soperton, Mickey Jackson of Soperton, Beverly Smith of Glenwood, Pamela Jackson  of Vidalia, Tracy Rogers of Mt. Vernon, grandchildren, Trevor Hester, Tori Angeles, Tyla Hester, Destiny McCoy, Tolen Hester, Preston Rogers, Jacey Hester, a great grandson, Jarren Hester and a great grand daughter, due to arrive in December, Adalynn Grace Mccoy.  She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Connell officiating.

Libby will be laid to rest in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm until the hour of service or friends and family may call at the home of her son, Matthew Hester.
