Faye Odom Dukes, age 89 beloved wife of the late Roy Gene Dukes of Soperton passed away on Friday evening, July 11, 2025 at the Brown Health and Rehabilitation Center in Statesboro, GA.
Born in Montgomery County, she was one of five children born to the late Fred Odom and Noma Lee Calhoun Odom. She grew up in Mt. Vernon where she graduated from high school before attending Brewton Parker College. In 1953, at the young age of seventeen she stepped into an adult's world as an Accountant for Holland Contracting and Asphalt in Mt Vernon. In 1955, she married Treutlen County native Roy Gene Dukes. Over the next forty three years, she remained with Holland Contracting through acquisitions and international mergers until retiring in 1996, after many years as the Controller for the company. During many of these forty three years; due to her husband's career requirements with Georgia Department of Transportation, they lived in Soperton and Mrs. Dukes would commute daily to Mt. Vernon. Her husband of fifty four years passed away in 2009.
Mrs. Dukes enjoyed baking, preparing and sharing her kitchen creations, gardening and listening to the Grand Ole Opry.
She had been a longtime member of First Baptist Church – Soperton and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by the youngest child in the family; her brother, Calhoun Odom.
She leaves behind her son, Danny Dukes (Jeanie), Canton, GA; siblings, Alteen McLeod, Soperton, GA, Freda Ricks, Soperton, GA, Velda Frost (Kenneth), Palm Harbor, FL; a grandson, Robert Alexander Dukes II (Joice Macena Dukes), Vidalia, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, July 14, 2025 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Cofield and Reverend Mark Sweat officiating.
Mrs. Dukes will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Fowler Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Blake Dennard, William McNair, Grant McLeod, Kirk McLeod, Lloyd Moses and John Koon.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home,
