Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Francis Elaine Smith, who passed away on October 18, 2026, at Treutlen County Health & Rehabilitation in Soperton, Georgia.

Francis was born on October 7, 1946, to the late Bennie and Dorothy Bodiford. She was preceded in death by her beloved older sister, Carolyn Boswell.

Francis leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, Woodrow W. Smith, Jr.; their son, Woodrow W. Smith, III, and his fiancée, Jennifer; and their daughter, Kathryn E. Bowden, and her husband, Matthew. She was a loving grandmother to David Smith, Christian Smith, Paula-Kathryn (Katie) Magar-Trecek, Matthew W. Bowden, Jr., and Brandon Bowden. Her legacy of love continues through her five great-grandchildren, who brought additional joy and happiness to her life. Francis is also survived by her younger sister, Diane Everett, and her husband, Johnnie; her younger brother, Benjamine Bodiford, and his wife, Tyrann; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

Francis was a Daughter of the Nile, an affiliation that was a part of her life and legacy.

A devoted wife and loving mother, Francis found great joy in crafting and creating handmade gifts for her family, friends, and members of her community. She expressed her love through her creativity, thoughtfully making special treasures for those she held dear. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and the gifts she created will remain lasting reminders of the love she shared.

Francis will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her thoughtful nature, and the warmth she brought to those around her. Her love will live on through the generations of family she leaves behind and in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the love she gave, and the legacy she leaves behind will forever be cherished.

May she rest in eternal peace, forever loved and never forgotten.
