Obituary

Mr. Gary Carl Collins, age 77, beloved husband of Cleo Foskey Collins of Tarrytown passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in Treutlen County, he was the only son and last living of two children born to the late Emmitt Carl Collins and Jessie Juanita McCoy Collins.  He was raised in Montgomery County where he has been a lifelong resident.  After graduating from Soperton High School he married Cleo Foskey.  Shortly after becoming married, he began a long career with the railroad, which began with Seaboard Coastline.   That career was interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam where he served as an Infantryman.  Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to Montgomery County, his wife and their first born son and continued his work with the railroad which would later be acquired by CSX.  He remained with CSX for many years until retiring as a Track Maintenance Foreman.  After retiring he enjoyed raising livestock.

Mr. Collins and his family have been longtime members at Zaidee Advent Christian Church .

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his eldest son, Gary Stacy Collins, who passed away in 2022; his sister, Betty Inelle Collins Harris and a grand daughter, Hannah Collins.

Mr. Collins leaves behind, his wife of sixty years, Cleo Foskey Collins; their two sons, Tony Collins and Marty Collins, all of Tarrytown; grandchildren, Dustin Collins (Autumn), Jacob Collins, Gabe Collins, Amanda Williams (Justin), Sarah Collins; and great grandchildren, Raelyn Collins, Zoey Johnson, Ellie Williams and Caleb Williams.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 on Thursday, July 16, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Dr. Clifton Drawdy officiating.

Mr. Collins will be laid to rest in the Zaidee Advent Christian Church Cemetery with military honors.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Brantley, Mikey Milton, Jarred Holmes, Justin McNure, Eddie Vongsouvanh and Jacob Collins.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, at Sammons Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 o'clock p. m. or friends and family may call at the family residence.
