Mr. George "Condell" Carter, age 71, beloved husband of Donna Loyd Carter of the Minter Community passed away on Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 2022 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Born in Soperton, he was one of six children in the family of the late Shad Manning "S.M." Carter and Doretha Ruby Livingston Carter.  He grew up in the Orland Community and was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, Class of 1968.  After high school, he attended Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon.  In the late 1960s he met, Minter native, Donna Sue Loyd at a high school basketball game; whom he would marry in 1970.  They have made their home in Minter for the past fifty two years.

Mr. Carter had a lifelong career in the Grocery Industry which started during high school when he worked at Rick's Grocery in Soperton and Winn Dixie in Dublin.  He worked for a short time at Mohawk Industries before returning to the grocery business where he worked as a Meat Cutter for many local stores to include Young's Grocery (which became Red and White Grocery), Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly, Big Star and Bi Lo.  During his career he served as a Regional Troubleshooter as well as a Market Manager.  Even after retiring he was called repeatedly, until finally accepting, to open and run Tim's Market in East Dublin.  Since retiring, Mr. Carter has worked as a substitute Teacher with the Laurens County Board of Education; kindergarten through twelfth grade as well as at the Heartland Academy.  The teachers and students loved him.

He was an avid Coon Hunter and had received the honor of being recognized as a Master of Hounds. He had some dogs that, his wife felt certain, he loved more than his family.   If not working at the store or attending to a church function, he would be in the woods, with his dogs, or at the field trials.

Above all other accomplishments and endeavors, Mr. Cater's number one priority was his church and his faith in his Lord.   He was a former member of the Norris Chapel in Rockledge and was baptized, before churches had baptistries, in Thairdell Creek.  Mr. Carter and his wife have been members of Minter Baptist Church for fifty two years where he had been a Deacon since 1992, was a Sunday School teacher and the Director of the Youth Ministry.  Many youth that grew up in the church and under his guidance carry memories of their mission trips to the Virginia mountains with Mr. Carter.

He will be missed dearly by his family and all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Weaver, a brother, M. L. "Buck" Moore, and a great grand daughter, Adylienne Carter.

Mr. Carter leaves behind his wife of fifty two years, Donna S. Carter, their twin sons, Richie Carter (Susan) and Reggie Carter, all of the Minter Community, two sisters, June Hughes (Wansley), Dublin, GA, Debbie James (Rickey), Forsyth, GA, a brother, Rickey Carter (Ginger), East Dublin, GA, grandchildren, Blake Carter (Amanda), Wesley Carter, Chris Feltis, Eric Feltis, great grandchildren, Branch, Hanley, Gatlin, Grayson, Raylen and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Minter Baptist Church with Reverend James Allen, Reverend Ben Edwards and Reverend Bobby Miller officiating.

Mr. Carter will be laid to rest in the Minter Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Friday, at the church, from 2:00 pm until the hour of service.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Nick White, Tommy Hughes, Jevon Carter, Clay Hughes, Kalem Loyd and Wesley Carter.

The men of Minter Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
