Mr. George W. Cummings, Jr., age 76, beloved husband of Evie J. Harrell, of Soperton passed away on Saturday morning, February 11, 2023 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.

Born in Caruthersville, Missouri, he was the son of the late George Washington Cummings and Nina Blanche Carter Cummings.  Mr. Cummings grew up in the Savannah, Atlanta and Soperton, Georgia areas.  He attended school at West Fulton County and Soperton High School.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 and served on active duty until retiring in 1985, at Charleston, South Carolina, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  In addition to his active duty service, Mr. Cummings also served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

He was an avid fan of the iconic General Motors Corvette and will be remembered for the care he bestowed on the many that he owned during his lifetime.  He was a master craftsman, enjoyed woodworking and maintaining his tools, as a master craftsman and CPO would.

Mr. Cummings had attended the Blackville Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of thirty two years, Betty Jean Herndon Cummings who passed away on September 23, 2017, an infant son, Stephen Cummings, birth mother, Lois Marie Slavens and siblings, Jerry Faulkner and Sarah Kiel.

Mr. Cummings leaves behind his loving wife, Evie Jo Harrell, Soperton, GA, children, Deborah McGee (Wayne)Sparta, GA, James Michael Cummings (Laura), Soperton, GA, Freddy Harrell (Heather), Hartford, AL, Morgan Harrell, Soperton, GA, Wayne Foster, Soperton, GA, siblings, Tim Slavens, Jimmy Slavens, Allen Slavens, Lois Slavens Reed, Dianne Slavens Mell, Teresa Slavens Blair, grandchildren, Michael Williamson (Gina), Sparta, GA, Emily Cummings, Atlanta, GA, Jodie Cummings, Atlanta, GA, Ryder Harrell, Soperton, GA, Sabre-Kate White, Soperton, GA, Adeline Adams, Soperton, GA, Ivy Adams, Soperton, GA, Austin Harrell, Hartford, AL, Jolynn Harrell, Hartford, AL, great grandchildren, Cole and Cody Williamson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 16, 2023 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Milton Thomas officiating.

Mr. Cummings will be laid to rest in Shiloh Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home or friends and family may call at the residence.
