Gerome Foskey, age 86, beloved husband of Polly Ricks Foskey of Adrian, passed away on Saturday afternoon, February 26, 2022, at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro, Georgia.

Born in Treutlen County, he was the son of the late Grable Lee Foskey and Mary Lou Willis Foskey.  Mr. Foskey grew up in the Orianna Community of Soperton and lived most of his life in the Adrian community.  Mr. Foskey worked many years with the Laurens County road department (District 5) in road construction as a motor grader operator.  Many have said that there were none better than he at his job.   He graded his last road and retired in May of 2007.

He was a perfectionist and believed, lived, and exhibited the saying, "If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing right."  Mr. Foskey was a regular with the morning coffee club at the Food Chief in Adrian.  He was always busy, whether at work or at home, and was a quiet mentor to many, never needing to speak a great deal to share his wisdom and words of encouragement and discernment.  He had a compassionate and tender heart, especially for animals.  At one time, Mr. Foskey took care of as many as 19 cats at the dumpsters.  He bought their food and medicine and would be heartbroken when he could not diagnose and treat them all in the needed time.

He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Georgia Bulldogs.

He attended Bethsaida Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ralph Hackle.

Mr. Foskey leaves behind his wife, Polly Ricks Foskey; their two daughters, Jean Foskey Hackle and Candace Foskey; his two grandsons, Brian Hackle and Justin Hackle, all of Adrian; and his sister, Wynola "Sis" Ely of the Orianna Community of Soperton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Alexander officiating.

Mr. Foskey will be laid to rest at the Ricks Family Cemetery in Adrian.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Sammons Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Collins, William Hart, Jason Horton, Andy Johnson, Craig Johnson, and Jared Sammons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Coleman, Dennis Dudley, Chip Jackson, and Don Key.
