Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce that Glenda Simons (84) passed away peacefully at Treutlen County Health & Rehabilitation in Soperton, Georgia, on Monday evening, September 21, 2026.

Born on April 25, 1942, Glenda was the cherished daughter of the late Marcus and Thelma Brantley Simons. She was preceded in death by her younger brother and only sibling, Charles Brantley Simons.

Glenda is survived by her niece, Marie Simons Sale (Josh) of Macon, Georgia; their sons, Stephen Leach and Harrison Sale; her sister-in-law, Neila Anne Young of Macon; and many beloved cousins, relatives, and friends.

After graduating from Treutlen High School in 1960, Glenda earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the Women's College of Georgia, now Georgia College and State University, in Milledgeville in 1964. She later earned both a Master of Education and a Specialist in Education from the University of Georgia.

Glenda devoted more than three decades to teaching high school English and retired from the Walker County School System in LaFayette, Georgia. A beloved member of the LaFayette High School faculty, she is remembered for her dedication and clever wit.

After her retirement, Glenda returned to Treutlen County to care for her aging parents in the Zaidee community. She was overjoyed in her final days to hear that her niece and her family had decided to keep the Zaidee homestead to enjoy and treasure for years to come.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Soperton and the Helen Perry Sunday School Class, Glenda demonstrated a lifelong commitment to both her faith and her community. She was also active in the Treutlen Retired Educators Association.

Throughout her life, Glenda traveled extensively with her parents. In later years, she developed a keen interest in genealogy and researched multiple branches of her family across generations.

Her family will welcome visitors at Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 2:00 - 3:00 o'clock p. m. followed by a private family burial at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in her memory to the Soperton First Baptist Church, 4991 S. 3rd Street, Soperton, GA  30457
