Mrs. Grace Marie Sweat, age 83, beloved wife of Jack Sweat, of Soperton passed away on Monday evening, April 2, 2018 at Treutlen Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018 in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Sweat, officiating.
Mrs. Sweat will be laid to rest in Westview Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sweat was born Grace Marie Keene in Laurens County; the youngest and last living of three children born to the late Clarence Lafayette and Annie Eudene Wells Keene. She grew up in Treutlen County and at the age of sixteen married Treutlen County native, Lee Jackson Sweat. They lived the life of a military family for twenty one years; moving frequently to various duty stations until returning to Soperton in 1966. After his honorable discharge and coming home, her husband joined his brother in the Bar-be-Que business, Sweat's Bar-be-Que, which they bought and operated together until its closing in 1991.
Mrs. Sweat was a longtime member of Soperton First Baptist Church where she taught the pre school and kindergarten Sunday School class for over 40 years. She was presently a member of the Helen Perry Sunday School Class.
Her children describe her as a most faithful and supportive wife.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Kenneth Keene.
She is survived by: her husband of 67 years, Jack Sweat, their children, Lee Jackson Sweat Jr. (Sandy), Baxley, GA, Cindy Buonamia (Nick), Lilburn, GA, six grandchildren, Jackie Brauninger (Matt), Grace Dubsky (Sean), Jackson Buonamia (Jennifer), Christopher Buonamia (Julie), Ryan Buonamia (Will), Timmy Buonamia (Carrington), six great grandchildren, Brayden, Evie, Henry, Thomas, Vivian, Kaia and multiple nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Mitchell, Josh, Marty, Forrest and Scotty Edge, Marty Keene and Brandon Holmes.
