Obituary

Mr. Harold Powell, age 89, beloved husband of the late Audra Vivian Josey Powell of Soperton, passed away at his home in Dublin on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Born in Kite, Georgia, he was the youngest and last living of three sons born to the late Robert C. Powell and Susie Fortner Powell.  Mr. Powell was a graduate of the Kite High School after which time he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served active duty for four years.  Upon being honorably discharged, he remained in Reservist status while beginning his quest for his worldly education.  He worked for Chan Carter at Farmers Furniture in Soperton  while attending Swainsboro Technical College.  Before begining a long career with Federal Pacific Electrical Company in Lyons.  He remained with Federal Pacific through a merger with Westinghouse until retiring after thirty years as a Quality Control Inspector.

Mr. Powell enjoyed fishing and hunting but his passion was Indian artifacts.  He was an avid collector and  renowned authority on local Indian history, tribal locations and customs.   He collected arrowheads from river beds, farmer's fields, even piles of random earth; and was known to have one of the most coveted collections of arrowheads; numbering into the thousands.

He was Baptist by faith and had been a former member at Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, William C. "Bill" Powell and Lewis Powell.

Mr. Powell leaves behind, his son, Danny Powell (Jennifer), his grandchildren, Mcartney Powell and Harrison Powell, all of Dublin, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2024 from the graveside in Westview Cemetery, Soperton, Georgia with Pastor James Salter officiating.

Funeral honors will be accorded by the Robins Air Force Base Honors Detail, Warner Robins, GA.

His family will receive friends on Friday, following the service, at the graveside.
