Obituary

Mr. Harrell Dorsey, age 74, beloved husband of Maxine Benthal Dorsey of Soperton passed away on Wednesday afternoon, December 7, 2022 at Memorial Health in Savannah.

A native and lifelong resident in Treutlen County, he was one of six children born to the late Leon and Mattie Bell Harrison Dorsey.

Mr. Dorsey had worked for many years with local streets and highway maintenance departments.  He began his career with the Treutlen County Road Department, and the Laurens County Road Department as an Equipment Operator before returning to Treutlen County where he worked for over twenty years and retired as Foreman in 2014.

He had been a member of Bethsaida Baptist Church for over thirty five years, where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and was involved in any church activity where his help could be utilized.

Mr. Dorsey enjoyed fishing and his morning meetings with the other members of the Jet Foods Coffee Club.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Don Thigpen, siblings, Merriam Watts, Bernice Lawrence, Juanita Aaron, Talmadge Dorsey, Curtis Dorsey, Roy Gene Dorsey, and Alton Jacob Dorsey and Wynoka Howell,

Mr. Dorsey leaves behind: his wife of fifty two years, Mary Maxine Benthal Dorsey, Soperton, GA, children, James Thigpen (Betty), Soperton, Tony Thigpen, Loganville, GA, Diane Thigpen, Soperton, GA, Billy Thigpen (Kathy), Dublin, GA, Jeffery Thigpen (Tammy), Soperton, GA, his last remaining sibling, Latha Fowler (Harold), Statesboro, GA, a brother in law, Edison Benthal (Linda), Dyersburg, TN, several grand and great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, that commonly referred to him as "Uncle Fluffy" and their canine pet "Pearl".

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 10, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Pulliam and Pastor Gilbert Posey officiating.

Mr. Dorsey will be laid to rest in Westview Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Friday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and following the service, on Saturday, at the funeral home.
