Obituary

Mrs. Ina Crowe Avery, age 80 of Soperton, passed away at her home on Thursday afternoon, January 30, 2020 after an extended illness.

Born in Fulton County, GA, she was the middle child of three born to the late Charles Robert Crowe Sr., and Emma Alice Tomlinson Crowe. She grew up in Atlanta and was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Brown High School. Shortly after high school, she married Emanuel County native, Wayne Avery.   The newlyweds lived in Atlanta for a short time before moving to Vidalia in 1959. After raising their three sons to school age, Mrs. Avery worked as a Teacher's Aide in the Vidalia Public School System. In the early 1970s, she worked with Georgia Learning Resource Systems before joining Piggly Wiggly Southern as an Administrative Assistant where she worked until their closing in the mid 1990s. In 2006, she and her husband moved to Soperton to be near family. Upon arriving in Soperton, the Averys joined the First United Methodist Church where she became the face seen at all functions whether it be kitchen duty, the annual Soup and Sandwich Luncheon or any other needed volunteer duty.

Mrs. Avery enjoyed playing Bridge and was a avid player at the Tuesday and Thursday Bridge clubs in Vidalia. Her passion above Bridge was her church, her family and time spent with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Avery leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Wayne Avery, Soperton, GA, their three sons, David Avery (Lisa), Soperton, GA, Alan Avery (Nancy), Port Jervis, NY, Richard Avery (Kim), Dacula, GA, a sister, Annilla Starrett, Jonesboro, GA, a brother, Charles Robert Crowe Jr. (Jimmie), Canton, GA, a brother-in- law, W. J. Wilson, Lake Sinclair, GA, grandchildren, Meredith Avery, Statesboro, GA, Katie Avery, Burbank, CA, Lauren Avery, Statesboro, GA, Chandler Avery, Statesboro, GA, Allison Avery, Dacula, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church of Soperton with Reverend Dr. Lee Pettis and Reverend John Drake officiating.

Mrs. Avery will be laid to rest in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 4969 GA Hwy. 15, Vidalia, GA 30474

Serving as pallbearers will be: David Onstott, Roger Onstott, Trey Truett, James Lowe, Blake Dennard, Scott Drennon, Mickey Cumbie and Keith Clark.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, Georgia or friends may call or make deliveries at the home of David and Lisa Avery.
