Iris Herndon Gray, age 82, of the Petross Community in Toombs County passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 19th, 2022, at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton, GA.

Iris was a lifelong member of the Zaidee Advent Christian Church. She loved her church family like her own. She was a very caring person; most happy while helping others or singing and playing the music she loved so much. Iris also spent many hours on Family History.  Her family meant everything to her.

She was predeceased by her parents: Ira & Marie Williford Herndon, her husband Raymond Gray, and her half brother Terrence Herndon.

Iris is survived by one son: Mitchell Allen Connell (Elaine) of Mt. Vernon, GA, step-children: Debbie Miller (Danny) of Pembroke, GA, Raymond Allan Gray of Pooler, GA, two sisters: Reta Frisancho (Sandro) and Dale White, of Lizella, GA, three brothers: Harvey Herndon (Geneva), Elmer Herndon (Grace) and Ernie Herndon of Soperton,  step grandchildren: Chris Mc Donald (Sam) of Mt. Vernon, GA,  Byron Anthony Stephens (Ashley) of Rincon, GA, Joni Griffin (Jason) of Pembroke, GA, Danielle Miller Kicklighter (Cory) of Pembroke, GA, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 22, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton, GA with Pastor M. L. Barber officiating.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm until the hour of service.

Iris will be laid to rest beside her husband in Zaidee Advent Christian Church cemetery.

The family would like to say a special "thank you" to the Nursing Home Staff for the care and kindness shown to Iris.
