We announce the passing of Jackie Hall Ellington at the age of 92 on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.  She was born in Toombs County to the late R.M. and Ora Collins Hall.

She was born in and raised in Toombs County but lived in Soperton most of her life.  She taught school at Rosemont and Treutlen Elementary.  She was a longtime member of Soperton United Methodist Church.  She had worked with The Soperton News for ten years before owning and operating Smith Jewelers in Dublin, Georgia for thirty one years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellington is preceded in death by her husband of sixty five years, John "Jack" Errol Ellington and her oldest son, John H. Ellington.

She is survived by her estranged daughter, Jean Stafford (Mark), her son, Jim Ellington (Sue), four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a longtime special friend, companion and caregiver, Terri Wadley.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 19, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ellington was laid to rest beside her husband in Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory are encouraged to be made to the Soperton Library or to Soperton United Methodist Church.
