James Newton Barwick, born May 5, 1930, originally of Adrian, GA, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 in Lawrenceville, GA.  He is predeceased by his wife, Joann Smith Barwick of Scott, GA, whom he was lovingly married to for seventy years, and his oldest son, James Daniel Barwick, and his wife, Kathy Barwick, of Lawrenceville, GA. He is survived by his children Mary Wynn Watters (Kim) of Ogden, UT, Toby Newton Barwick (Kathryn) of Lilburn, GA, and Robert Barwick of Austell, GA, as well as twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Barwick joined the Navy at age 15 in 1946 and retired as Chief Petty Officer after serving for 20 years. During his time serving his country during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, Mr. Barwick traveled the world and his family lived in several cities across the United States.  He ultimately settled in Austell, Georgia after he retired, where he lived for over 50 years. He retired from the United States General Services Administration, where he worked as a printer. Mr. Barwick continued to work many different jobs after his retirement, including a job as a carousel operator at Six Flags Over Georgia, which delighted his granddaughters very much. He was a good provider for his family, a deeply devoted husband, and an upstanding member of his community. An elder in the Church of the Latter Day Saints, he gathered food for the church's food bank for years after his retirement.

Funeral services, with military honors, will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from the graveside, next to his beloved wife at the Watson-Odomville Cemetery outside of Adrian, GA.   His family will receive friends on Saturday at the graveside.
