Obituary

Mr. James E. Hoffman "Jim", age 89, beloved husband of the late Sandra Jean Barrett Hoffman, formerly of Terryville, CT and presently of Tarrytown, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon April 11th, 2023 after a brief stay at Scott Health and Rehabilitation in Scott, GA.

Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the only son and one of two children born to the late Elmer and Mildred C. Bergen Hoffman. He grew up in Terryville where he graduated from Terryville High School, Class of 1951. After high school, he attended and studied Bacteriology at the University of Connecticut. In August of 1956, Mr. Hoffman enlisted in the United States Army, where he served until he was honorably discharged in August 1959. Also, in 1959, he was introduced to Lebanon, CT native, Sandra Jean Barrett, (by his sister Joyce), whom would become his wife in 1960. The Hoffmans lived most of their married life in Thomaston, CT where they raised their two children while Mr. Hoffman worked for Wheeler/Sperry as a Quality Control Supervisor and his wife worked as the School nurse until they each retired.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman were married for sixty years before her passing in July of 2021. They were avid supporters and fans of the University of Connecticut Huskie sports programs, enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

They were members of the First Congregational Church in Thomaston, CT.


Mr. Hoffman leaves behind he and his wife's children, Greg Hoffman (Terry), Southington, Ct, Tracy Kight (Cale), Tarrytown, GA, his only sibling, Joyce McBain, Rancho Palas Verdes, CA. grandchildren, Sarah Dlugoszewski (Scott) Southington, CT, Douglas Hoffman (Katie) Southington, CT, Alex Doe (Nathan) Charlton, MA, Jordan Sconziano, Tarrytown, GA, Jaimee Sconziano, Tarrytown, GA, Jacob Sconziano, Dudley, GA, great grandchildren Wesley, Leah, Esther, Claire, Summer and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hoffman will be laid to rest with his wife in the Hillside Cemetery in the town of Plymouth, CT.
