Mr. James B. Meeks Jr. (Junior), age 95, beloved husband of Ruby Nell Peebles Meeks of Soperton passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 22, 2023 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.
Born in Treutlen County, he was the son of the late James Bryant Meeks Sr. and Mildred Lawrence Meeks and one of nine children in the family. Mr. Meeks grew up primarily in the Soperton and Wrightsville areas. He had worked with Gaston Wilkes in Vidalia for a period of time before joining Farmaster Equipment Manufacturing in Dublin, in 1962, where he remained until retiring as a Supervisor in 1991.
He enjoyed farming and planting and tending his annual garden.
Mr. Meeks and his wife have been longtime members of the Holy Church of God in Soperton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Gladys Meeks, a daughter, Nell Marie Smith, a grandson, Joseph Antonio Smith, a son in law, Billy R. Laster, his brothers, William Meeks, Floyd Meeks, Waylon Meeks, G. T. Hall, Johnny Meeks and sisters, Donnie Tilyou, Gaynelle Coxwell and Audrey Powell.
Mr. Meeks leaves behind his wife of seventy years, Ruby Nell Peebles Meeks, Soperton, GA, their daughter, Janice Laster Currie and her husband, David, Las Vegas, NV, great grandson, Joshua David Smith, Soperton, GA, great grand daughter, Johannah Anne Marie Smith Busby (Jacob), Wheat Ridge, CO, grandson, David Walker Currie, Las Vegas, NV, his remaining sister, Barbara Jean Smith, Glenwood, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2023 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Wood and Linda Johnson officiating.
Mr. Meeks will be laid to rest in the family section of Westview Cemetery.
His family will receive friends and family on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm until the hour of service or guests are invited to visit at the family home.
