Mr. James Billy "Sam" , "Sambo" Steptoe, age 75 of the Meeks Community passed away on Monday morning, October 31, 2022 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.

Born in Johnson County, he was the youngest of three children born to the late Bryat Benjamin "B.B." Steptoe and Lessie Beth McCoy Steptoe.  Mr. Sam was a lifelong resident of Johnson County.  He had been a Mechanic for his entire life; owning and operating Sam's Garage in Adrian until the early 2000s.  He was an avid fan of dirt track racing and drove his own car at many of the local dirt tracks for many years and was a mentor to many young aspiring drivers.  Mr. Sam enjoyed raising cattle and horses and riding his horses on occasion.

He had attended Corinth United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Jean Caraway Steptoe and a sister, Louise Steptoe Munoz.

Mr. Steptoe leaves behind: a son, Jordan Willis, Kite, GA, his brother, Johnny Steptoe, Meeks, GA, several nieces and nephews and a special niece Ivey Willis and a special nephew, Oliver Willis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from the graveside in Corinth Church Cemetery, Meeks, Georgia.

Mr. Steptoe will be laid to rest beside his wife.

Serving as pallbearers will be:  Mitchell Meeks, Buster Willis, Howard Mason, Ronnie Hutcheson, Joe Martin and Jordan Willis.

His family will receive friends on Friday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, Georgia.
