Ms. Jeanette Powell, age 84, of the Lothair Community of Soperton passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.
Born in Soperton, she was the eldest child and only daughter of four children born to the late Talmadge Powell and Mary Lee Foskey Powell. She attended school in Mt. Vernon where she was the captain of the girl's basketball team. She later attended Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville where she completed her BSN in Nursing and began a long career in patient care and healthcare facility administration. During her career, she worked at Claxton Hospital, Fairview Park Hospital, various doctor's offices and as Director of Nursing at Parkside Lodge in Dublin. Ms. Powell retired within the past 10 years.
In addition to her nursing work, she also owned and operated a sewing and alteration shop in Dublin.
She enjoyed working with ceramics, traveling, square dancing and line dancing and adventures in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
She had been a longtime member of the Rosemont Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by former husbands, James Edward Walker and John Deese as well as companions, Bill Phillips and William Harold "Bill" Howell.
Ms. Powell leaves behind, her sons, Michael E. Walker (Tracey), Dexter, GA, David Deese (Wendy), East Dublin, GA, three brothers, Jerry Powell (Joyce), Higgston, GA, Wendell Powell (Laura), Soperton, GA, Joey Powell, Soperton, GA, grandchildren, Tara, Shelby, Emily, Valerie, Jessie, Kyle, Kristopher, Alyssa, great grandchildren, Karley, Jackson, Lane, Raelyn, Heaven, Baylor, Kinslie, a great great granddaughter, Adaleigh and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Mertz and Pastor Dwayne Clements officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Wesley Powell, Justin Edge, Matthew Powell, Caleb Powell, Jeremy Powell and Jonathan Powell.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, at Sammons Funeral Home, from 11:00 am until the hour of service or friends and family may call at the family home in Lothair.
Ms. Powell will be laid to rest in Westview Cemetery, at the foot of her parents.
