Mr. Joseph W. "Joe" Herndon, age 69 of Scott passed away at his home on Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2019.

Born in Dublin, GA he was one of three children born to the late J. C. and Marjorie Faye Evans Herndon. Mr. Herndon grew up and lived in the Zaidee Community of Treutlen County for a number of years before moving to SCott in the early 1970s. He had worked for over 40 years as a Truck Driver and Mechanic.

He enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar and singing in various gospel groups.

He had been a longtime member of the Zaidee Advent Christian Church

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Phyllis Ann Clements Herndon and his brother, Richard Herndon.

He leaves behind his wife, Joyce Foskey Herndon, Scott, GA, children, Brent Herndon (Michelle), Ben Herndon (Toni), LuAnne Cherry (Russ), all of Scott, GA, Teresa Lyles, Wrightsville, Tina Clements (Michael), Scott, GA, his sister, Maureen Crosby (Donny), Tarrytown, GA, grandchildren, Josh and Amy Herndon, Trey Cherry, Christopher Moorman, Erica and Jordan Green, Hunter and Taylor Knight, Tyler and Kayla Franks, Kelly Sumner, Kerri Coleman, Taylor Clements, Mitchell Clements, great grandchildren, Layla, Alice, Oaklyn, Aubrey Rhae, Brenly, Mason, Bentley, Kaylee and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Donny Crosby and Mr. Gene Stewart officiating.

Mr. Herndon will be laid to rest in the Zaidee Advent Christian Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: J. L. Hutcheson, Grayson Wilson, Stevie Clements, Shannon Hood, Jack Foskey and Stanley Clements.

His family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
