Mr. John J. Collins, age 56 of the Lothair Community of Soperton passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 18, 2022.
Born in Soperton, he was one of three sons born to the late Roger Bruce Collins and Trudie "Tootsie" Jeanette Chester. He grew up in Soperton and was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, Class of 1983. John had worked within the Georgia Department of Corrections in the late 1990s before joining the Georgia Department of Transportation. He worked as a Construction Inspector with GDOT until retiring after twenty years. After retiring he returned to work as a Consultant and was still actively working at the time of his passing.
Mr. Collins enjoyed NASCAR (especially Bill Elliott), talking, joking, restoring Vintage and Classic cars and anytime spent with his family.
John and Heidi had attended Boiling Springs Missionary Baptist Church and Anchor of Hope in Soperton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, George Kelly Collins, who passed away in 2013, his paternal grandparents, Kelly and Leila Collins and his maternal grandparents, George and Trudie Chester.
John leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Heidi Henry Collins, their children, Chestin "Ches" Hayes Collins, Adelyn "Addy" Cecile Collins, all of Soperton, GA, his remaining brother, Mike Collin (Melanie), Vidalia, GA, two nieces, Olivia Warnock (Jackson), Tarrytown, GA, Amelia Peacock, Vidalia, GA, his in laws, Jeff Henry and Annie J. Glover (Jimmy), all of Soperton and an uncle, Russell Collins, Swainsboro, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 22, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Conway Jones officiating.
Mr. Collins will be laid to rest in the family plot at Westview Cemetery.
His family will receive friends on Friday, at the funeral home, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm or family and friends may call at the family's home.
