Mr. John Lewis Newsome, age 73 of Soperton passed away at the home of his daughter on Wednesday morning, February 12, 2020.

Born on January 27, 1948 he was one of five children born to the late Pierce and Mary Walden Newsome. Mr. Newsome grew up in Glascock County and had resided in Louisville and Warrenton before moving to and living in Tarrytown and Soperton since 2002. He had worked as an Equipment Operator for the State Highway Department, had driven log trucks and had worked for Georgia Pacific in Thomson, GA until retiring. Mr. Newsome enjoyed fishing, time with his grandkids, gardening and woodworking with his son-in-law.

He had attended Tarrytown Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and George Newsome and a sister Kathryn Newsome.

Mr. Newsome leaves behind his children, Patricia Winters (Ron), Soperton, GA, Lewis Lee Newsome (Sandra), Reidsville, GA, John Lewis Newsome Jr., Rebecca Wildes (Ty), Wrightsville, GA, Christy Denmark (Robert), Uvalda, GA, Donna Jones, Twin City, GA, Melissa Hooks (Douglas), Winter Haven, FL, sixteen grandchildren, twelve plus great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm on Friday, February 14, 2020 at the Tarrytown Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Clifton Drawdy officiating.

Mr. Newsome will be laid to rest in Tarrytown Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Ron Winters, Lewis Newsome, Ron Winters III, Tylior Wildes, Stephen Stafford and Douglas Hooks.

His family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home.
