Mr. John A. "Hunter" Thomas Jr., age 78 of Dexter passed away on Tuesday morning. October 1, 2024 at the home of his daughter in East Dublin.

A native and lifelong resident of Laurens County, he was the son of the late Milton Grady Thomas and Mildred Jordan Young.  He attended the Conder School in Laurens County before joining the United States Navy where he served with the Sea Bees.  Upon being honorably discharged he became a Millwright and affiliated himself with the Millwright's Local Union No. 1192, Birmingham, AL.  He traveled and worked as a Millwright for forty seven years until retiring at the age of seventy.

Mr. Thomas was affectionately referred to as "Hunter" because of his love of coon hunting, raising and training coon dogs and his participation at the annual coon trials.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Bobby L. Thomas and a grandson Jordan Graham.

"Hunter" leaves behind his wife, Janice Brown Thomas, Dexter, GA, his three daughters, Rachel Thomas Cook (Dan), Jennifer Thomas and Sheila Overstreet, all of East Dublin; a brother, Vick Thomas of Dublin, two sisters, Melba Evans, Uvalda, Gloria Keen, Macon, grandchildren, Matthew Oliver, Adrianne Oliver, Keaton Seymour, Kylan Evans, Landon Mcoy, Lane Overstreet, great grandchildren, Maddie, Trey, Camryn, Trevor, Hallie, Charlee Kate and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 4, 2024 from the graveside in Silver Leaf Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor W. L. Currie officiating.

Mr. Thomas was laid to rest with military honors
