Mr. Johnnie Mitchell Wheeler, Sr., age 88, of Soperton died Sunday, August 7, 2016.
Mr. Wheeler was born in Fort Pierce, FL and was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben Albert and Ada Yates Wheeler, his wife of fifty-five years, Bethia Elizabeth "Beth" Wheeler, and his brother, Burnice Wheeler. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was retired from Swain Groves, Fort Pierce, FL. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, Treutlen County.
Survivors include his children, Carolyn Harrell of Port Charlotte, FL, Freida Coker of Brunswick, Michelle (Paul) Beasley, and Johnnie (Melanie) Wheeler, Jr. all of Soperton; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Tommy) Gore of Alma; and brothers, Ervin Wheeler of Hazlehurst, Chris (Frances) Wheeler of Waycross, and Leon Wheeler of Nichols.
Funeral services will be held in Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, with Reverend E. E. Beasley and Reverend Paul Beasley officiating. Burial will be in Faith Tabernacle Cemetery, Treutlen County, with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and may be reached at the home of Paul and Michelle Beasley, 196 Polly Flat Lane, Soperton.
